The JCCC and the Knitters Frolic are committed to providing a safe, comfortable show. The JCCC is a non-smoking facility.

IS THERE FREE PARKING?

Yes. Limited free parking is available in the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre parking lot. We share the facility with other scheduled events. Street parking is also available on Garamond Court. There are also parking lots located close by that charge a small fee. Location and maps

WHAT IS THE ENTRANCE FEE?

Adult admission on Saturday is $7.00. Cash only. Exact change appreciated.
Children under 12 are Free.

WHAT TIME DOES THE SATURDAY SHOW OPEN?

Doors open at 9:00 am sharp.

IS THERE A WAITING AREA OR LINE QUEUE FOR THE SHOW TO OPEN?

Early birds line up outside the front doors.
Line marshals will be available to assist you and answer questions.
NOTE: There is a separate queue (on the right) for people taking 9 am workshops on Saturday.

IS THERE A SHOW MAP PROVIDED?

See the Knitters Frolic floor-plans for a show map and floor-plans. You can print your own copy if you wish and a show map will also be displayed inside the Frolic main entrance.

IS THIS EVENT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

Yes. The JCCC is wheelchair accessible, as are the washrooms and food/beverage areas.

ARE THERE FOOD & BEVERAGES AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?

Yes. The Knitters Frolic Cafe is located at the far end of Heritage Court on the main floor level.
Cafe Hours: Saturday 9am – 4pm
No food/beverage service on Sunday.

WHAT FOOD & BEVERAGES WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE?

Food and beverage service includes coffee, tea, soft drinks, water, juices, sandwiches, desserts, and snacks.

Persons with special dietary requirements should bring their own food as on-site food options are limited.
No food/beverage service on Sunday.

ARE THERE IN/OUT PRIVILEGES?

Yes. Once you pay your entrance fee you are given a stamp which allows you to enter/exit, to drop off purchases at your car, take a fresh air break, or go for lunch and return.

IS THERE A REST OR SEATING AREA?

There is seating in the Knitters Frolic Cafe if you purchase a beverage or snack.
There is a seating area in Nikkei Heritage Centre Room. Please note that no food or beverages are allowed in the Nikkei Heritage Room.

IS THERE AN AREA TO CHARGE CELLPHONES?

There is a complimentary charging area just outside the entrance to Nikkei Heritage Centre room, just north of the main entrance.

ARE WE ALLOWED TO TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS?

2017 is the first year we are allowing photography and videotaping at the Toronto Knitters Frolic. We are asking you to use your best judgment when taking photographs or videotaping. This is a public space and attendees and vendors have been warned that their image may be taken and used, however we are relying on everyone to be respectful and work together.

IS THERE A MEET UP AREA FOR SOCIAL MEDIA AND VIDEO PODCASTERS?

Yes. We have a dedicated space for social media and video podcasters to congregate just outside the entrance to the Nikkei Heritage Centre. This area also doubles as a cellphone charging area, so people can also upload media to their websites, YouTube, Instagram away from the crowds in the Marketplace booths.

WHAT IS THE MARKETPLACE?

The Knitters Frolic marketplace is a fabulous one day fibre lovers extravaganza. 51 vendors from across Canada offer yarn, fibre and related goodies and notions.

At the main entrance of the event is an open common area with an information desk, yarn winding station, door prize box, and prize draw table.

The Marketplace is divided into 3 retail areas on the ground floor.

Classrooms for the workshops are on the second level and are accessible by staircase or elevator.

IS THERE A MARKETPLACE/SHOPPING ON BOTH DAYS?

No. The Frolic Marketplace is one day only: Saturday, April 29, 2017.

WHAT IS SOLD OR AVAILABLE AT THE MARKETPLACE?

Fibre related items including hand dyed yarns, hand spun, commercial yarn brands, kits, books, magazines, bags, beads, fibre, and related tools and notions.

HOW BUSY DOES THE MARKETPLACE GET?

The Saturday Marketplace is very popular and well attended every year, with a lineup waiting for the doors to open. Vendor booths are well stocked. But beware … an item you covet on your first walk through the marketplace may be sold by the time you return.

If you are uncomfortable with crowds or prefer a more low-key experience, we recommend you arrive after 1pm. The vendors arrive with plenty of products to last the day, so it is unlikely you will be disappointed.

The Knitters Frolic abides by Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre and the City of Toronto Fire Code regulations, which stipulate certain minimums in terms of aisle width and the Frolic organizers ensure there is enough room for attendees to move about comfortably.

WHAT VENDORS ARE ATTENDING?

ARE CREDIT CARDS AND DEBIT CARDS ACCEPTED?

This depends on the Vendor. Carry some cash to avoid being disappointed although most do accept credit/debit. It depends on each vendor’s point-of-sale systems whether they accept credit cards or debit payments. Contact an individual vendor should you require confirmation.

IS THERE AN ATM CASH MACHINE AT THE FROLIC?

There is no ATM at the JCCC. There is a PC Bank Machine inside the Supercentre (Don Mills and Wynford) and Royal Bank Machines at the Royal Bank (150 Wynford Dr) and inside the Esso Station (Don Mills and Wynford).

ARE THERE ITEMS FOR SALE FOR PEOPLE WHO CROCHET, SPIN, WEAVE, MACHINE KNIT, RUG HOOK?

We never know what treasures our vendors will bring until Show day. However, we can assure you that there will lots of fibre and yarn! Take a look at the Vendor List and contact an appropriate vendor if you are looking for a specific item.

IS THE MARKETPLACE ON ONE OR TWO LEVELS?

The Marketplace is on the main level of the JCCC.
Workshops are located on the second floor with stairway and elevator access.

CAN I CONTACT A VENDOR FOR SPECIAL REQUESTS?

By all means! Check the Vendor List and feel free to contact any of these vendors to make a special request for merchandise to be picked up at the show.

ARE THERE WORKSHOPS ON BOTH SHOW DATES?

Yes. The Knitters Frolic organizes workshops on both Saturday and Sunday.

Note: on Sunday there is no Shopping Marketplace, and no food and beverage service. We recommend students bring their own snack/beverages that day.
The Frolic Spring Social on Sunday April 30 will offer food and beverages as part of the event.

We have planned a selection of workshops designed to appeal to a variety of people.

HOW CAN I REGISTER FOR WORKSHOPS?

You can register for workshops on the Toronto Knitters Frolic website.

Starting 2017, Workshop Registration is possible only through the website. Registration will not be offered at Toronto Knitters Guild meetings, nor through the mail.

WHEN CAN I REGISTER FOR WORKSHOPS

Workshop registration opens March 1, 2017 on the Frolic website.

Registration continues until 1 week before the start of the Frolic. Any remaining workshop spots will be available for purchase (cash or cheque) at the Frolic on Saturday April 29.

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS ARE ACCEPTED FOR WORKSHOPS?

PayPal is the accepted payment method. You can use a credit card to pay through PayPal even if you do not have a PayPal account

IN THE PAST I HAVE WRITTEN A PERSONAL CHEQUE TO PAY FOR WORKSHOPS. IS THIS ALLOWED?

No. Starting in 2017, payment is online with PayPal only.

Any remaining workshop spots will be available for purchase (cash or cheque) at the Frolic on Saturday April 29, subject to availability.

WHAT IS THE FROLIC SPRING SOCIAL?

Sunday April 30, 1pm – 4pm
Doors open 12 noon
The Frolic Spring Social is a new event for 2017, to provide the opportunity for show attendees to gather together dressed up in their knit and crochet finery and enjoy Afternoon Tea, guest lecturers, and a Fashion Show featuring garments by Ontario design talent and show sponsors.

WHAT IS THE COST TO ATTEND THE FROLIC SPRING SOCIAL?

Tickets are $45 in advance, $50 at the Frolic on Saturday or at the door on Sunday, subject to availability. We recommend you purchase your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment, and to assist us in our planning.

HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS FOR THE FROLIC SPRING SOCIAL?

Advance tickets are available through the Frolic website with payment through PayPal.
Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the Frolic on Saturday or at the door on the day of the event, subject to availability.

CAN I PURCHASE TICKETS FOR THE FROLIC SPRING SOCIAL AT THE SAME TIME AS FROLIC WORKSHOPS?

Yes. You can purchase Spring Social tickets alone or in conjunction with Frolic Workshops.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY TICKETS FOR THE FROLIC SPRING SOCIAL?

Your tickets will be delivered electronically to the email address used in the purchase.
Once your online purchase is complete, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a LINK to your ticket. You can print your ticket and bring it to the event, or display it on your phone at the event to be admitted.

ARE THERE PLENTY OF WASHROOMS?

Yes. The JCCC has enough washrooms, which are wheelchair accessible and child friendly on the main floor.

IS THERE A COATCHECK? IS THERE A BAG CHECK?

The Toronto Knitters Frolic does not offer Coat Check or Bag Check due to space restrictions.
NOTE: The Knitters Frolic and the JCCC are not responsible for personal items or purchases lost or left behind at the Toronto Knitters Frolic. Be smart, keep an eye on your belongings.

IS THERE A YARN WINDING STATION?

Yes! The Frolic offers yarn winding for a nominal fee with proceeds donated to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. Attendees can drop off yarn and pick up their yarn during Marketplace hours.
NOTE: The Knitters Frolic is not responsible for yarn left behind in any area of the JCCC including the yarn winding station.

ARE THERE DOOR PRIZES OR DRAWS?

Yes! A Door Prize Ballot is provided on payment of admission. Complete your ballot and place it in the Door Prize Ballot Box opposite the Admission Desk. The draw will be made at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. If the winner is not present, s/he will be notified by email.

Prize Draw Tickets may be purchased at the Prize Draw Table in the front hall. Ticket prices are 1 for $1.00 or 3 for $2.00. Tickets should be completed with name Email address, and Phone number and placed in the Prize Draw Drum.

Prizes are donated by many of our vendors plus non-vendor distributors, yarn shops and independent producers. Prizes are limited to a maximum of two per individual winner. Prizes may be picked up during Frolic Marketplace hours (Saturday 9am – 4:30pm). All remaining prize winners will be notified by email. These prizes will be available for pickup at the May 17th or June 21st meetings of the Toronto Knitters Guild.

ARE DOGS ALLOWED AT THE FROLIC?

Only service dogs trained to help people with disabilities are allowed into the JCCC and the Frolic.

ARE THE FROLIC ORGANIZERS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS?

Yes. Email frolicvolunteers@torontoknittersguild.ca if you are interested in volunteering.

All Frolic Volunteers are required to do a two hour shift. In recognition of their volunteer time, volunteers receive Free Admission on Saturday, access to the Hospitality Suite, and a discount coupon from one of our vendors. We encourage all Toronto Knitters Guild Members to volunteer. Any remaining Volunteer positions will be filled by non-guild members starting on April 1.
